High School Seniors and Juniors jump start your career path to law enforcement with The Blue Path!

Who Is Eligible to Apply

  • Memphis area high school senior on track to graduate by June 2018
  • Must be age 18 before June 25, 2018
  • Must desire to serve your community, and exhibit good character
  • Must be a US citizen and a resident of Shelby County
  • Must have submitted TN Promise application by November 1, 2017
  • Must be free of felony convictions and drug use.

How to Apply

  1. Attend a mandatory session at Southwest Community College or other designated location
  2. Complete TN Promise Requirements
  3. File the 2018-2019 FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  4. Apply to Blue Path online beginning October 4, 2017
  5. Attend a practice Battery of Test
  6. Attend a MPD Battery of Test
  7. Have a minimum 2.5 GPA, 3.0 GPA preferred
  8. Submit grades each quarter

If I’m accepted to the Blue Path program, what must I do to seal the employment deal with MPD?

  • Graduate from high school by June 2018
  • Graduate with a minimum 2.5 GPA, 3.0 preferred
  • Have a valid Tennessee driver’s license before June 25, 2018

Once employed by MPD, then what?

–  Starting on June 25, 2018, you’ll be employed as a Police Service Technician (PST) trainee earning $26,000+ per year. You’ll start with a 6-week training course with MPD Academy, earning you credit hours toward your Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Southwest Tennessee Community College.
– In August 2018, you’ll then begin PST duties ranging from controlling and directing traffic to reporting criminal behavior.
– In September 2018, you’ll also continue coursework towards an Associate Degree (free of charge), taking classes with your fellow PSTs one day a week for four or five semesters.

Graduate to the Best In Blue!

Once you complete your Associate Degree, and are within 4 months of age 21, you’ll be offered the opportunity to complete the remaining 22-weeks of MPD’s Training Academy to become a police officer, earning a $40,000+ (per year) salary.
